Wedding Gowns On A Mission- To Change The World

Did you know that your gorgeous wedding dress has the power of impacting lives across the world? The fabrics and methods used to produce a dress can actually improve lives or downright contribute to our environmental crisis. More often than you realize, designers use some sort of synthetic blend with their silks, if silk is even used at all. But producing synthetics like Nylon and Polyester creates a tremendous amount of nitrous oxide, a very dangerous greenhouse gas. Not to mention the waste of large amounts of water and energy. So you might think: “I’ll just buy a dress made from natural fabrics”…Think again: the herbicides used to treat cotton, for example, stay in the garment way after finishing and are released over the lifetime of your dress…ouch! Then there’s the problem of manufacturing overseas to cut on production cost. Many of these factories which have been often linked to extremely poor working conditions, degrading women, and child labor. But what if you knew, that the garment you’ll be wearing on the big day isn’t only gorgeous but could change all of that?  Some designers are choosing to be kinder to the environment and other humans instead of being part of the problem. By participating in the Fair Trade movement or simply using fabrics with lower environmental impact such as hemp and organic cotton, they are making a real difference across the globe. Here are some of my favorite ethical bridal designers
